About Siberians

Legend tells us that the earliest know reference to Siberians is around 1000AD. Many early writings mention this strong, beautiful breed living in Monasteries in Siberia. They were hardy, sturdy and adapted well to the harsh weather conditions of these frigid lands.

Siberians are a natural breed originating in Siberia and Russia. They are renowned and cherished in homes in Eastern Europe today and have been for many, many years. The Traditional Siberian is know as a Siberian Forest cat. The color point Neva Siberian originated in St.Petersburg, Russia along the Neva River. Both types of Siberians are beautiful, striking and are set apart from other breeds.

*The Siberian is a slow maturing cat. They are not fully grown until 4-5 years of age. At maturity the average weight is between 10-18 pounds. Typically the male will be a little larger than the female.

*Siberians are very strong and muscular. They have a powerful musculature and a sturdy build. Their legs are strong and thick. They have very large paws with tufts of fur between their toes. The leg and collar area is distinguished by a luxurious plumage.

The Siberian cat is the perfect family furever loved one. They usually love everyone in the family and have a long lifespan. They are easy to take care of possess unconditional love!

Cat Allergies

Most cat allergies are caused by a small protein called Fel d1. It is produced in several glands but primarily the salivary glands. When cats groom the Fel d1 becomes airborne and can cause reactions in sensitive people. The litter box often contains a lot of this Fel d1 protein as it passes through the cat’s system.

Siberians are considered hypoallergenic. They are the #1 most hypoallergenic cat. This is because most Siberians have less of the Fel d1 protein than other domestic cats. Many people who are allergic to cats find that they have little to no allergic reactions to Siberian cats. This is great news for those that would love to share their life with these beautiful creatures. Although this is true not everyone is so lucky. While many have no reactions some people do. Although we have placed many kittens in allergy homes with no issues, allergies are very individual to the person and the cat. Because of this we cannot absolutely guarantee that you will have no allergic reactions.

We at SiberianBest very much hope that you and your family can enjoy the companionship of one of our remarkable kittens. Therefore we have made available a couple ways to determine if a Siberian is right for you.

          1. Request a T-shirt test. We will send you a pre-washed t-shirt that the kitten or mama cat has laid on. When t-shirt arrives to you wear it for a while and see if any allergic reaction is triggered($75).

       2. Request a fur sample ($25). Place the fur in a sock or under a bandaid to see if a reaction is triggered.
